The slideshow below is a brief overview of the Big Bang Theory.
The Big Bang theory is an effort to explain what happened at the very beginning of our universe. Discoveries in astronomy and physics have shown beyond reasonable doubt that our universe did in fact have a beginning. The "big bang" was when the universe was in a very high density state then expanded. As these particles of the universe expanded, they cooled. When the universe cooled, clouds formed. After this, stars, planets, and galaxies formed.
Scientists predict that the big bang happened approximately 13.8 billion years ago. The theory was created by Georges Lemaitre. He was a Belgian Priest, astronomer, and a teacher of physics. He called his theory the "Hypotheses of the Primeval Atom", later known as "The Big Bang".
